Title: Strength in Weakness: Examining The Mess Under The Carpet
Speaker: Brett Olson
Purpose: Brett Olson shares his life story as a student with cerebral palsy. He starts from the terrifying night when he was born (doctors were not sure if he would make it through the night) to where he is today.
“When I was first diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at six months doctors told my parents that I would never be able to walk, talk, or live on my own and that I would be confined to a wheelchair every day for the rest of my life. When they got out of that office they said that they would do everything in their power to make sure that what the doctors predicted would not come true. So, they got down on their knees and prayed and that is why I am standing in front of you talking to you about God’s hand in my life. In the months leading up to our birth I am sure that my parents were praying that God would give them the perfect baby. But there is no such thing as a perfect baby because there are no such things as perfect people. -Brett Olson
Excerpt: This was one of the most powerful talks of the week–I am pretty sure there was not one dried eye in the room. Brett Olson shares the introduction to his talk on his blog: Strength in Weakness. Another blog post by Brett on the event is here.
