Experience Disabilities: Gordon College’s Library Closing
What:
The week before Beyond Disabilities Week, we received permission from our college president, public safety, and the director of the library to close the entrance of our public library.
Why:
We used the library closing as a way for students to experience *on a small scale* what it is like to live with a disability on a daily basis. At Gordon, students with physical disabilities must walk around the side of the library to enter since we do not have a ramp at the front entrance.
Who:
Signs covered the front entrance of the library, which directed all students to use the accessible entrance (found at the side of the building).
